MINI Cooper D - Mytyres - Johny G
A word of warning when using Mytyres for complete wheel and tyres.

I purchased a set of winter tyres mounted on Dezent alloy rims last December. I paid for the wheels to have tyre pressure sensors fitted into the wheels.

I got The local Mini dealer to fit the wheels and they informed me that they didn't believe the wheels had sensors in them. Mytyres told me to get them checked and they would meet the cost of fitting if they did not have sensors.

I ran the car through last winter without working sensors. I have since had the tyres removed from the rims and checked. There were no sensors. The Mini dealer has fitted sensors at a cost of £58.50 per wheel.

I have informed Mytyres and to date have received no compensation.

If you have a record of what you ordered, Small claims Court is your answer.

Let me get this straight. You spoke to Mytyres who said to get them checked and they would pay but, you used them for a whole winter season before doing so and now months later you expect them to pay?

Agreed. You used the wheels for a whole winter, then (presumably) left them for the whole summer, and only then got them inspected ?

Sounds like you weren't really that bothered. I wouldn't blame them if they told you to get stuffed. Your own tardiness in doing anything about the 'problem' says everything about how much of a problem it really is.

In fiftyfive years of driving I have managed perfectly well without tyre pressure sensors, apart from the gauges I've used for weekly checks.

I certainly wouldn't pay those prices for these gadgets, especially given their likely unreliability and vulnerability to damage.

Can't say i blame Mytyres for being a little disinterested given the lapse either, and i'm with Galileo, never had tyre pressure monitoring and have no wish for it.

A few years ago i got some Mytyres supplied tyres fitted by one of the mobile fitters found on their website, no problems except the price charged was near enough double the one advertised.

For purely courteous reasons i sent Mytyres an email explaining their info was wrong, short while later they answered requesting a scan of the receipt, which i supplied, and to my pleasant surprise unasked for they reimbursed the difference and corrected their web entry.

Apart from that genuine error which they promptly sorted i have bought from the company many times for self and family, and other online tyres sellers too, in no particular order Tyreleader, Oponeo, Camskill and Tyremen, never had the slightest problem with any.

You may well have done and indeed so have I, but there are many millions of motorists out there who never check their tyres for either pressure or condition. those people need all the help they can get.

Indeed. SWMBO came home two nights ago and said that a tyre pressure warning had come on. I asked which tyre, to which the answer was 'the left one..'

I checked yesterday morning and found them all a little low, but not so low as to be dangerous, but not obvious froma cursory glance. Took ten minutes to sort.

I think these are now mandatory under an EU directive so you will not have a choice other than continuing to buy older and older cars (unless of course Brexit changes things).

Some cars use the ABS sensors to detect under inflated tyres.

Johny,

Ever heard the phrase "strike while the iron is hot".

Methinks you let the iron go stone cold.

I bought a complete set of winter tyres/wheels from MyTyres this time last year and as specified they came with pressure sensing valves fitted. MyTyres stated that the valves would automatically be detected by the car and need no further programming which is exactly what happened.

One very happy MyTyres customer.

If you drive a car without pressure sensing valvesthat was fitted at the factory with pressure sensing valves you will find yourself in contravention of your insurance T & C's and very probably the law since it is a requirement at MOT time for them to be working.

Think yourself lucky to have got away with it and forget about claiming, you have left it far too long.

Suggest you take safety more seriously in the future.
