2013 1.6 Qashqai manual box 31K miles whines excessivley at 2,000 rpm under acceleration in 2nd and 3rd. Two other similar Qashquis are the same to a lesser extent. Car is new to me so don't know what it was like previously - surely gearbox can't be failing at 31K miles? Anyone else experienced this?

My pet theory is that because the car is underpowered the box has been thrashed and the cogs worn or damaged (it isn't he mainshaft bearings cos its only in those gears).

Or maybe Nissan figure that wives and mothers will feel more at home in the car if there's something whining in the background.
