Land Rover Defender - Army Land Rover with no MOT - FoxyJukebox

I am wondering whether to report a 20 year old Land Rover which has for some time been parked, unused, nearby on our public road. It is currently taxed for some months to come, but has no MOT(MOT History website says "no details match").

If this vehicle is still "in army service"-is there a requirement for it to have an MOT?

i suspect though that it has reached the end of it's professional life and the current new owner has "forgotten" to put the vehicle through it's MOT paces?

Incidentally-the Government's MOT history is also a truly excellent tool-give it a twirl

Thoughts welcome

If it was still in army service I'd expect itto have military plates and not be on DVLA database.

Not taxed and on public road = offence. While driving it other than to a pre arranged test would be an offence not sure one is committed if it's parked.

If it's taxed it ought to have been checked for MOT as well as insurance I would have though.

Is it insured?

If its not being used is it a danger to anyone, appears to be taxed and presumably insured so whats the problem, so the owner has forgotten to MOT it or is (more than likely) waiting for a break in the weather to do some work on it to get through the test is that something to grass someone up for.

Sorry if that seems harsh but some people have to suffer from the actions of anti social bullies, drug dealers and assorted nasties and the old bill couldn't give a stuff unless the victim happens to be an untouchable/minority in which case a media sensation hate crime leading to gongs and promotion is in the offing and they can't get there quickly enough.

I have no doubt a fixed penalty (kerching) will arrive promptly on the owners doorstep if you report it, but that's only providing more revenue for the ever diminishing service we receive from our various aloof and distant apparatchiks or more funds for our national unleaders to fritter or give away.

Yes the MOT site is extremely useful for additional checking out of a potential purchase.

In my opinion there are many more cars with MOT's that are in a dangerous condition than some that for legitimate reasons have an expired MOT.

If your really that bothered, Why not just ask the chap about his Landrover in a polite and friendly way? Even cars that are 'no oil painting' can be in great mechanical condition under the bad paintwork.

MOT test should ensure all lights, head, tail, brake, indicator are in working order. Just count how many vehicles (presumably with valid MOTs) fail in this respect. This includes taxis, buses and occasional cars done with the tasteful blue and yellow checkerboard scheme.

Note: I don't expect working indicators on BMWs or Audis, they must have an exemption
