Suzuki Ignis - Suzuki Ignis 4Grip - removing Transfer Box - wispy

Hi, I have posted on the Suzuki Owners forum but cannot get any help with this issue, so hoping I have more luck on here :)

I have a Ignis 4Grip - 2004 - and it is suffering with knocking and other issues - I have tracked the problems down to the 4 wheel drive transmission and the transfer box.

I have done many and various repairs (including removing gear box and built a kit car) but have not worked on a 4 wheel drive vehicle before.

I am looking at removing the transfer box and then getting it professionally reconditioned/repaired and I wondered if anyone had any hints/tips they could give me before I undertake this?

Thanks in advance

:)

If the transfer box does prove to be the problem, then i would think removal, repair (if you can find somebody to do it)and refit ,the cost would possibly be more than the value of the car.

I would source a good sh box...far cheaper than repair.. parts are likely to be v expensive if obtainable.

Thanks for your reply :o) I have not been able to source a SH one, so am hoping to get it refurbed.

Would be grateful if anyone has any recommendations for specialists in the Lincolnshire area?

About the only quote you can reasonably expect is one for remove and refit, no one can possibly quote meaningfully for a knocking noise that may or may not emit from the transfer box.

Shouldn't be beyond a capable DIYer to remove the box, there's an extra drive to remove over a normal 2WD car but its Japanese so usually designed to be worked on unlike modern Euro cars now nearing disposable, and the box will be surprisingly heavy so seek an assistant to help you lift it out should you be tackling the removal yourself, its probably heavier than the Suzy but when my son and i changed the clutch in his Scooby it would have been too heavy for either one of us alone.

Hi, thanks for your reply, sorry I only just spotted it.

I did manage to remove box but have now discovered that it is Suzuki parts only which puts it out of my price range :(

Do you happen to know if the front diff in the gearbox is a limited slip diff that sends drive to either front wheel and transfer box when front wheel slips?

Thanks in advance

Just in case,

What state are your tyres in? You can have problems if some tyres more worn than others - put wierd forces on the 4wd
