New Aygo revealed
The new Aygo is designed to have a distinctive and characterful design with a wealth of customisation options. At the same time new Aygo builds on the qualities that made the original such a success throughout its lifetime, keeping the car compact, nimble and reliable, with genuinely low running costs. The latter are supported by revision to its award-winning three-cylinder 1.0-litre VVT-i petrol engine to secure class-leading fuel economy and emissions.
The overall length has increased by just 25mm to 3,455mm, which means it keeps the class-leading compactness of the previous model, and although front headroom has been increased by 7mm, vehicle height has actually been reduced by 5mm to 1,460mm, supporting the car’s aerodynamic efficiency. Both front and rear tracks have been widened by 8mm.
Although the wheelbase is unchanged at 2,340mm, the cabin is longer by 9mm, Wider armrests also improve comfort. There’s more room for luggage as well – an extra 29 litres – and loading is easier thanks to the space between the sill and rear seatback being made 5mm wider.
On the outside the X-shaped front grille, rear bumper insert, enhanced front bumper and alloy wheels can all be specified to suit, while in the cabin the instrument panel, centre console, air vents, shift knob and gear lever surround can easily be changed, even after years of ownership.
To make life simple, customers can also choose from a range of exterior and interior styling packs if they prefer, rather than selecting piece-by-piece customisation.
The new Aygo will be available with Toyota’s new x-touch multimedia system, operated using a fully integrated seven-inch touchscreen. It’s the first system in its segment to come with a rear view camera as standard.
The new Aygo features a comprehensively revised version of Toyota’s three-cylinder 1.0-litre engine. There’s more power and torque: 68bhp at 6,000rpm and 95Nm at 4,300rpm; 85Nm of torque is available from as low as 2,000rpm.
Combined cycle fuel consumption is reduced from 64.2mpg to 68.8mpg and bring CO2emissions down to 95g/km, below the 100g/km threshold for annual road tax (VED) exemption. The Aygo will be offered with a five-speed manual transmission or optional new x-shift, a much-improved automated manual transmission that can be used in fully automatic mode, or with manual gear selection using paddle shifts or the shift lever itself.

Aygo prices revealed
The new Aygo hit the road in the UK from 1 July 2014 with on-the-road prices from £8,595 – reduced to £7,995 with the benefit of a £600 customer saving offer. It will be launched in the UK in three and five-door bodystyles and three grades, x, x-play and x-pression, plus two special editions, x-cite and x-clusiv, offering customers exceptional choice. The colours ramp up new Aygo’s fun factor, with five options: White Flash, Silver Splash, Electro Grey, Deep Blue Buzz and Red Pop. In addition, the x-cite will be offered only in Orange Twist and the x-clusiv in Bold Black.
An optional x-nav pack (£395), unique to the new Aygo, can be linked to the multimedia system, using a dedicated storage pocket in the glovebox. This is activated using the Connect menu and gives driver access to fast and accurate pan-European route guidance.
Customisation packs are key to Aygo’s character and individuality. The OUTstand pack (£395) lets owners transform the exterior with three elements – the front X, A-pillar x-tension and rear bumper insert, in a choice of three colours. Yet more can be added with the OUTburst pack (£245), which comprises a front bumper decal, side sills and rear diffuser decal, available in red or chrome. The cabin can be transformed with the INspire pack (£165) with surrounds for the air vents and gear shift to match any exterior colour; other interior components have a piano black finish. The mood heightens further with INtense (£165), which introduces body colour-matched instrument panel, centre console and gear surround.
Owners can also have the double-bubble roof of their Aygo covered in a contrasting coloured decal (£195), and can ramp up the street style with option five-spoke alloys (£499) in silver, glossy black, machined glossy black and white. A twin-spoke alloy (£499) can also be specified in the same finishes, plus a customised centre cap in any of six body colours.
Aygo x-wave full length electric canvas sunroof option announced
Costs an estra £895 on top of the prices of the 5-door Aygo x-pression. Aygo x-pression already features 15-inch alloy wheels, front fog lamps, projector headlights with LED daytime running lights, the x-touch multimedia system with DAB and Bluetooth, reversing camera and air conditioning. Gloss black elements in the bodywork and the cabin help the small car make a big style statement, contrasting with White Flash, Electro Grey, Silver Splash, Red Pop and Deep Blue Buzz paint options.
Aygo range updated with new features
The updated x-cite follows the theme set by the original x-cite model, replacing the vibrant Orange Twist paintwork with bright Cyan Splash. The blue metallic bodywork strikes a strong contrast with gloss black custom features, including 15-inch twin-spoke alloy wheels, door mirror casings, front X, front pillar extensions and rear bumper inserts. The theme is carried through to the cabin where the Cyan Blue shade is featured on the air vent surrounds and carpet mat edging. The seats are finished in dark grey with contrasting blue and light grey bolsters and the centre console and gear shift surround are gleaming gloss black.
For even more street-impact, customers can opt for the bi-tone version of x-cite, which adds metallic black painted roof and front and rear pillars, plus rear privacy glass for an additional £395. Looks are not the only attraction: x-cite is equipped with the x-touch multimedia system, including Bluetooth and DAB, and a reversing camera. Standard equipment also runs to air conditioning, power-adjustable heated door mirrors, driver’s seat height adjustment, split-folding rear seats, leather steering wheel and gear knob trim, front fog lights and LED daytime running lights, Safety provisions include six airbags ABS with emergency brake distribution, vehicle stability control and a tyre pressure warning system.
Three and five door versions are available, powered by Toyota’s three-cylinder 1.0-litre engine with manual or automatic x-shift transmission. Proving that something stylish can be affordable and practical too, both x-cite and x-pure deliver combined cycle fuel economy from 68.9mpg and CO 2 emissions from 95g/km – below the 100g/km threshold for annual VED (road tax).
The Aygo x-pure features white and silver are the colour co-ordinates. On the outside the White Flash paintwork is teamed with rear privacy glass, white-painted alloys and silver-finished bodywork elements. Inside, the standard grey seat fabric is accompanied by white and light grey bolsters. The centre console and gear shift surround follow the trend with a silver-white finish. The x-pure provides the same features and choices as the x-cite, apart from the bi-tone package.
The updated x-cite and x-pure were available to order from June 2017, with first deliveries to customers from June 2015 for x-cite and from August 2015 for x-pure and the bi-tone model. All are covered by Toyota’s five-year/100,000-mile new car warranty.

Toyota Safety Sense now available
Providing a laser-controlled Pre-Collision System that warns the driver of an imminent collision with a vehicle ahead (Forward Collision Warning) and readies Pre-Crash Brake Assist to deliver emergency braking as soon as the brake pedal is pressed. Should the driver fail to take action after the warning, the system will initiate Autonomous Emergency Braking to reduce speed by about 19mph, potentially bringing the car to a stop, to prevent a collision or reduce the force of impact. The Forward Collision Warning works at speeds between 10 and 86mph, when the relative speed between the Toyota and the car ahead is greater than 10mph. The Pre-Crash Brake Assist functions at speeds between 19 and 49mph, with relative vehicle speeds greater than 19mph. For Autonomous Emergency Braking, the speed range is from seven to 49mph. A Lane Departure Alert function is also included. This monitors lane markings on the road and helps prevent accidents and head-on collisions caused by a vehicle moving out of its lane. If the car starts to deviate from its lane without the turn indicators being used, the system alerts the driver with visual and audible warnings. Toyota Safety Sense is available now as an option on all Aygo models apart from x grade, price £375.
