Should a torque converter gearbox be left in drive when at traffic lights?

Is it important to not leave a torque converter gearbox in drive when waiting at traffic lights. I believe best practice is to move the selector to Neutral but does it really matter?

How should I use neutral with an automatic transmission?

First time driver of an automatic car here so be kind! When shall I select neutral? Does not putting the car in neutral when stationary (such as at traffic lights) put excessive wear on the gearbox?
