Can I contest a small number plate fine?

Received £100 fixed penalty fine for the number plate on my bike from a police officer. It was on the bike when I got it and I have only had it for three months. Any idea if I should contest this and, if so, how?

Presumably the fine is for the size, spacing and/or typeface of the numbers and letters. If they don't conform to the rules then you have no basis to contest the fine.
