I'm having a fuel system problem with my Peugeot 306 - can you help?

I am having a few problems with my 306. The car will not idle. The ECU is reading:

'Permanent fault low pressure pump supply.'

'Intermittent fault: Cylinder reference sensor. Consistency when stopped.'

'Intermittent fault: Diesel pressure signal. Short circuit to positive or circuit open.'

I am unsure what the problem may be and what, if anything, I should check or replace without spending too much money.

It appears that you are indicating low fuel pressure. If so, then you need to check the fuel supply from the tank to the HPP (high pressure pump). Some vehicles rely on the HPP to suck fuel from the fuel tank to the HPP, while others have an electric pump to lift the fuel to the HPP. I'm not sure what you have got but the pressure from the tank to the HPP should be 2 to 5 bar. Fuel is delivered from the HPP to the rail/injectors at approximately 200 bar during cranking and 300 bar at idle, and anything from 1200 to 1800 normal running. Again you might want to check this. Lastly the pressure must be maintained in the rail/injectors.
