Does my Jaguar XK8 have a serious gearbox fault?

I have recently bought a 2004 Jaguar XK8 from a Jaguar specialist for £15,000. Having driven it for two weeks I have noticed a severe "snatch" between first and second gear (which appears worse if I accelerate hard). It is also noticeable, but less severe, going from second to first. All other gear transitions are very smooth. The car has done 85,000 miles and so I cannot expect it to be perfect, however I am concerned that there may be something seriously wrong with the gearbox. The car came with a six-month warranty. Do you think the problem is terminal? Should I take it back to be looked at, or do I live with it because of the age and mileage of the car?

The greatest torque reaction the transmission has to cope with it the upchange from first to second. So yes, you are right to be concerned. I'd get it to a member of www.fedauto.co.uk and then confront the dealer who sold it to you with a verdict. Do not instruct him to carry out any work unless the dealer agrees to pay for it.
