Is it fair that I contribute to repairing a Vauxhall Zafira I bought a month ago?

One month ago I bought a 2007 Vauxhall Zafira and the garage gave me three months' warranty. I noticed that the gear change was a bit stiff, so I took it back for them to check. After inspection they told me that I needed new gear cables and it would cost me £307.85, but they would cover the first £100. After a bit of a discussion, a final figure that I would have to pay was agreed - £100 - and they would, as a goodwill gesture, pay the other £107.85. Is this fair? I would assume that a car that only left the forecourt less than a month ago should really be without these sort of problems.

Unless they can prove that you damaged the cables then they have to replace them FOC, or take the car back and give you your money back. That is the law. Here: www.honestjohn.co.uk/faq/consumer-rights
