Can I fit a US-spec engine into my UK Jaguar X-Type?

I want to buy a new engine from the US to replace my own Jaguar X-Type engine which has blown. I would like to know the pros and cons, as the price from the US is one third of the price here in the UK. Alternatively, can anyone recommend a reliable company in the UK that does reconditioned units?

This is a Ford Mondeo engine made (I think) at Bridgend in Wales. But it was/is also fitted to the Ford Maverick II/Escape and the spec of it for the Maverick II/Escape will be different.
