How can I stop my Honda HR-V's alarm going off?

I own a 2000 Honda HR-V three-door hatchback which I purchased in 2002 from our local dealer. At the beginning of this year the alarm started going off randomly when I used the key fob or when I started the engine. On some occasions it stopped immediately when the fob was repressed, but in other instances it could go on for a couple of minutes. I had a new car battery approximately five weeks ago and the alarm then operated correctly, leading me to believe, although unexplainable, that the problem was now over.

However the alarm has now started, on occasions, sounding again when the fob is pressed. Amongst the documents I have is a Honda certificate stating that the vehicle is fitted with a Honda CAT 1 T2 alarm/immobiliser. What do you think?

Surely the simplest answer is to have the alarm disconnected.
