Are the CO2 emissions recorded wrongly for my partner's Volkswagen Eos?

My partner has a Volkswagen Eos 2.0 TDI 140 PS DSG and I have a Volkswagen Passat Estate 2.0 TDI 140 PS Manual. She pays £200 a year car tax and I pay £155. We did wonder why the car tax should be different. Her Vehicle Registration Document shows CO2 emissions as 177g/km, but the Volkswagen website shows 154g/km. However, the Sport model (2.0 TSI 210PS) is shown as 178g/km. So we think the Vehicle Registration Document for her car is wrong.

She's been in touch with DVLA and they say that Volkswagen have to say "sorry, we got it wrong", before DVLA will change the registration document. Clearly the website shows it is wrong, so surely DVLA should just make the change?

No. The DVLA issues the V5C on the basis of information from the manufacturer, so if that information is wrong the manufacturer has to tell them. Go back to the dealer. You did not give me the months and years of registration so I could not pre-check for you, but you can at: www.vcacarfueldata.org.uk
