My 2011 Audi A3 broke down the day after the emissions fix - can you offer any advice?

Can you publish some advice about the owners considering whether to get the Volkswagen "fix" being applied to EA189 engines actually implemented? I sold my 2011 Audi A3 2.0 TDI to my girlfriend's mother 2 years ago. The car had been fault free. It had the re-mapping done recently (at 61,000 miles) and the next day starting having issues with the engine management light coming on intermittently, with power loss symptoms emerging after a few days. The dealership in question said there was no link with the re-map and further investigation was necessary. However, a small amount of research will reveal a number of issues being reported after the emissions fix, with expensive work including EGR replacement being ultimately required. My girlfriend's mother ended up trading the car for a petrol model, resulting in a large loss of money, because she was afraid of breaking down and being stranded. I really would urge anyone to think twice about getting the emissions fix done. It's not a requirement.

Very few owners have reported a successful remap. But whether it can be successful or not depends on the state of the engine in the first place and particularly the state of the EGR. As you state, issues are being dealt with on a case by case basis, with preferential treatment to owners of low mileage, fully dealer maintained cars. I'll simply add your report to the A2 carbycar entry.

Good choice of engines. Some petrol engines now chain cam. Comfortable and well built interior. cheap to run 1.6 TDI. Feels very refined especially on the motorway.
