Should I have the emissions fix on my Volkswagen Tiguan?

I have a 2013 Volkswagen Tiguan 177PS DSG with the EA189 engine. This is due to have its 'fix' shortly and, having read all the comments, I'm extremely concerned that it will be worse after it's done. At present the engine is working well with no problems. Should I instruct them not to do the fix? If I don't have it done is it likely to affect residuals? Are there any other issues I need to consider?
