How can I clean out my Volkswagen Passat's windscreen washer reservoir?

Any ideas on getting rid of a rotten egg smell from my Volkswagen Passat's windscreen washer system?

Stick a hosepipe right down into the bottom of the washer reservoir and hold it there, while you get someone else to turn on the tap and blast all the crud and slim out of the reservoir (and off the pump filter). Then replace this with the correct washer fluid and the job will be done.
