How can I get rid of windscreen smears?

I've used every suggestion known to get rid of smears on the windscreen on my 14 month old Qashqai. The wipers seem to clear the screen, but they leave smears. Could it be the wipers? I've cleaned these thoroughly. If it is the wipers, a while ago in the Telegraph you recommended an internet company where good quality wipers can be purchased - who were they? This is SO frustrating.
