Should we buy GAP insurance with our new Skoda Fabia Estate?

My wife and I are buying a new Skoda Fabia Estate and have been offered GAP insurance for £250. What do you think about such insurance? Is it worthwhile? We're not reckless drivers, but a previous car was written off by an idiot coming around the corner on the wrong side of the road. Are there any providers you know of who we can compare rates against?

It's usually about a third of the price bought through an independent insurance broker, rather than a car salesmen who is a licensed credit broker.
