Need a family car capable of carrying bikes

I have recently retired and will be handing back my trusty Volvo V70 company car, which has doubled as our family car for the past few years. I am now running a 2006 Ford Fiesta as my family car as a temporary measure, but I realise it is time to replace it with something larger.

I have always owned Fords, and need something that can carry four adults in comfort, along with three adult bikes. Running costs are important, as I don't want to spend a fortune on fuel. I am toying with the idea of a Kuga or Focus, but I am also tempted by the Volvo alternatives (XC60 and V40, respectively). What would you suggest?

For bikes, and sticking with Fords, a Ford C-Max or a Ford Tourneo Connect:

Also much more useful for all the other activities you are likely to get up to and things you need to transport in retirement.
