Need a dog friendly hatchback for under £7000

I own a 2010 VW Golf Estate 1.6 BlueMotion. Already EGR valve has been replaced. Daughter also recently bought 2009 1.9 Golf TDI on my recommendation and CAN unit just needed to be replaced.

I have now lost confidence in Volkswagen reliability so want to cut my losses and buy a dog friendly car. Budget £7,000. Mileage 11,000. Also wondering about future of diesel - would it be better to get petrol?

If still thinking diesel, a KIA cee'd or Hyundai i30 1.6CRDI SW, preferably pre-2010 to avoid one with a DPF. If 1.6 GDI petrol, then these models must have the six-speed gearbox otherwise fifth gear is too low. Lots of other possibilities. A taller Ford C-Max or Mazda 5, for example, best 1,8 or 2.0 petrol.
