Which hatchback is best for carrying a dog?

I'm considering buying a used saloon-shaped hatchback. I quite like the Audi A5 Sportback, BMW 4 Series Grand Coupe, Ford Mondeo and Skoda Superb. Is there anything else I should be considering?

The problem with a hatchback vs an estate car or station wagon is a much higher load lip for the dog to jump over in order to get in, and when the dog gets old you are going to have to lift it in.

If you want something interesting, what about a forthcoming classic W211 Mercedes E63 AMG station wagon? 6.2 litre V8. 514 HP. 0-60 in 4.3. Fabulous noise. And easy entry/egress for the dog. www.honestjohn.co.uk/road-tests/mercedes-benz/merc.../

More mildly, the BMW 3-Series GT has a comparatively low load lip for a hatchback and you can get that in a lot of engine, transmission and drivetrain variations including a 225i (now 340i): www.honestjohn.co.uk/road-tests/bmw/bmw-318d-gran-.../?
