Buying a new car - Can I demand a 66 plate registration?

I ordered a new Nissan X-trail on two weeks ago after being told there would be a 4 - 6 month waiting period (a 66 Reg was put into my head). Yesterday, I was told "good news" the delivery date has been brought forward to 20 August (16 Reg)

If I had wanted a "16 plate" I would have ordered a Jeep Cherokee (there was a one month waiting list) and a significant dealer deposit too. I put down a £500 deposit on the car. Talking to Nissan I don't really want to play a waiting game on the off chance of getting a 66 plate. Where do I stand ?

Simply tell them that your £500 deposit is for a 66 reg and if they are going to make you wait until 20 August (12 days before 66 reg) then they can ether offer you a £2000 discount or give you your deposit back.
