What could have caused my daughter's Nissan Micra's brakes to fail?

My daughter's 2004 Nissan Micra's brakes failed as she reversed down the drive. It was nothing to do with overheating as it was from a cold start. We just had a call from the garage to say they can't find anything wrong. It's a bit worrying to say the least. The brakes are working at the moment, but don't feel as firm as when the car was purchased about eight weeks ago. Any suggestions?

It may be moisture in the fluid. Have it checked for moisture and, if necessary, changed.
