Why are gear changes becoming difficult in my 2002 Ford Mondeo?

I have a problem with engaging gears in my 2002 Ford Mondeo TDCI. When the engine is off, gears shift well but when I start the car I can't put a gear in. If I turn the engine off and start it again (sometimes I have to do it twice or three times) then the gears work fine. But it's getting worse. Sometimes while driving it's hard to change into some gears.

I'd guess at the dual mass flywheel starting to fail.
