Porsche Boxster engine fault - where do I stand?

I bought a 2007 Boxster s 3.4 987 less than a year ago which has now been diagnosed as having scoring on the cylinder bores. According to the Porsche garage who serviced the car this is a know problem which will need a complete engine rebuild. Has Porsche ever admitted to this design fault and what recourse do I have to the dealer or the warranty company, whom I purchased an extended warranty with?

What actions should I now take, as I've been advised by the warranty company that I will need to have the engine stripped at my own cost before their assessor will look at the problem. This will cost appx £2000, and then possibly a £10,000 repair bill, should they not approve the claim.

Who sold you the warranty? If you paid for it, then your only possible course of action is against the warranty insurer. But if you paid the dealer for it then the entire issue is the dealer's responsibility and, if the warranty insurer denies the claim because the problem pre-existed taking out the warranty, then that lands the cost of rectification firmly in the dealer's lap. The relevant case law is Clegg v Oller Andersson, House of Lords, 2003. More here: www.honestjohn.co.uk/faq/consumer-rights/
