Similarities between new Twingo and Smart Fortwo?

I have been looking at both the bew Twingo and Smart Fortwo and have notice some similarities in switch gear and overall positioning of features within the cabin.

Do both cars share a common platform? Is the platform the cars are based on, if they are shared, Mercedes or Renault base. If this is the case will there eventually be an auto offered on the Twingo?

Same car underneath: joint development between Mercedes and Renault. Renault has just introduced a Twingo with the same EDC (efficient dual clutch) transmission. You see very few Twingos on the street compared to the Smart ForFour that did not arrive until at least 6 months later. The Twingo should have been a lot more fun to drive than it actually is.
