My HVV licence has expired - do I need to re-sit my test?

My HGV licence has expired as I've not used it in many years. Do I need to sit my HGV test again and do I need a CPC, as I passed my test in 1975?

No, you should not need to take another test. What you will need to do is undertake a medical exam (arranged with your local doctor). There is no set fee for this, so make sure you agree the cost before you attend. Once you have completed that, get the necessary forms from either the DVLA (Swansea) or Post Office and send them away. You should then get a driver's card, with a photo on it, and also a digital card.

As for the CPC, all drivers have to undergo 35hrs of training by the year 2014. There are many different ways of doing this training, ie eight hours per year or all 35 in 2014, and there are many companies and agencies who will do the training.
