Are you aware of an electrical fault with the 2009 Mini One?

A friend of mine recently purchased a brand new 2009 Mini One as her first car. The car was fine until a couple of months ago, when it started to cut out. The car's electrics would periodically fail at traffic lights or the approach to roundabouts, making it impossible to start the car for a short period. She took it in to the BMW garage where she purchased the car to have it checked out. After a brief stay in the garage they assured her that the problem was rectified, yet it continued to persist, so she took it in again. This time they claimed to have rewired the car or something along those lines, and said the fault shouldn't re-occur. Despite their claims it happened again and so they kept the car in for even longer this time before finally deciding that it was ready to be taken back. The owner was quite worried about the problem at this point as it had continued to plague the car despite BMW's assurances. She was primarily worried because of how dangerous it could have been if it happened whilst driving at speed, and so said she was unhappy about taking the car back unless they offered her a written promise that they had fixed the problem and that it would not continue. They said they could not do that and thus she is sceptical as to whether they even know what causes the problem.

I was wondering if you have heard of a similar problem occurring in this model or if she has a case to ask for a new car, as the problem has not been rectified despite the countless attempts by BMW, and it has caused her massive inconvenience as they would not even give her a courtesy car initially.

No, no answer to this except if the dealer cannot fix it she has grounds to back the car for a refund, though probably not a full refund as the car is now at least seven months old.
