Should the dealer repair my Volkswagen Passat's squeaky gear change?

I've got a very annoying squeak coming from the gearbox when I change gear on my 55-plate Volkswagen Passat Estate. I have taken it back to garage where I bought it from and they have rectified other minor issues, but say the gearbox is ok. It's one of those noises that drives you up the wall. Can you help?

It's a cable gear change. If you bought the car less than six months ago the dealer you bought it from has to fix it. Otherwise it's down to you.
