Should I part-exchange my MINI Clubman for an ex-demo Audi Q5 now, or wait for a brand new one?

I’ve recently ordered a new Audi Q5 TDI 170 S Line and was advised that delivery would be in March 2011, and the dealer has agreed to absorb any VAT increase. A few days later the salesman called to tell me that, due to unprecedented order numbers, delivery would more likely be June or July 2011. Whilst this doesn’t bother me unduly, as the price of the car is now fixed, I am a little concerned over the future trade-in value of my vehicle, a March 2008 MINI Clubman Cooper S Chilli in dark silver/silver roof with full leather, heated windscreen/seats, auto lights-on, rain sensor, multi-function steering wheel inc cruise control, folding mirrors and parking sensors.

Should I change the MINI for a nearly new Q5 now (my dealers’s Jan 10 170 TDI S Line demonstrator will be available soon for around £34,000) and then trade it in when my new one finally arrives, as these appear to hold their value extremely well, or should I hang on in there with my Clubman?

You have to wait a year? In percentage terms the MINI Clubman will probably drop more over the next year than the Q5. But in pounds the Q5 will probably drop more because of the much higher initial outlay. £34,000 is a huge amount of money for an ex-demo. They are good cars, but overpriced: www.honestjohn.co.uk/road-tests/audi/audi-q5-road-...t
