Can I fit a towbar to my i10?

I recently purchased a new Hyundai i10 from my local dealer. When buying the car, I asked about fitting a towbar to tow a small trailer. The salesman said Hyundai would be uncompetitive price wise and recommended a local towbar fitting company.

I have just called them only to be told that the latest i10 is a non-towing vehicle and I've been told it's due to weights on the chassis plate. I've just called the Hyundai dealer and they are totally unaware of this. Can you tell me if its true? And secondly, what can I do about this with the dealer as it represents a major problem for my use of the car?

Very likely, yes, because this is an extremely lightweight car, not built for towing. And if EC Type Approved towing equipment is not available for the car it cannot legally tow. This is a legitimate reason for rejecting the car for a full refund: www.honestjohn.co.uk/faq/consumer-rights/
