BMW 520D 2011 driving chain failure.

I purchased a BMW 520D SE Touring 2011 from BMW in June 2014. Last week the drive chain failed. The car has done 74000, all serviced at BMW. They are fixing the issue, but they will not extend the warranty on the work they have done to the engine. I believe they are doing modification to the drive chain/engine and changing a couple of valves. I was driving at low speed when the engine just lost all power. BMW told me they would give me 2 years warranty if I had paid for the issue, as it is under warranty they will not do anything. Should I sell the car once I get it back as a friend has advised me to do? I am gutted as I have since looked into the problem and there lot´s of problems reported online with drive chain failure.

Very common failure on the N47. One reason is extended oil service intervals. Another is that the plastic tensioner gives up. When you get it back it will probably be fixed as long as you change the oil and filter a lot more frequently. but I understand your trepidation.
