Hyundai i30 paintwork peeling - who's liable for the repairs?

My son purchased a five month old Hyundai i30 in August 2012 from a dealer. Over the past year several large sections of paintwork several inches in diameter have come away, mainly around the front bumper.

My son took the car back to the dealer who advised that this hasn't occurred due to a manufacturing defect but due to mostly stone chip damage and possibly some scuffing (which I cannot see) which has led to the paint flaking. Due to this, they are unwilling to contribute towards the cost of any potential repair to the paint work. What do we do about this please?

You take the car away and get the damage repaired and the bumper repainted. A dealer or a manufacturer cannot be held liable for stone damage unless you find that the bumper was damaged before you bought the car and patched up with filler that could not flex the same way as the plastic. Then you would have a case against the dealer.
