What should I do about the worn out air con on my V50?

I have a Volvo V50 D4 2010 with a noisy Air Con Pump. Is it as simple as unbolting and attaching a replacement? Will it work out of the box, so to speak, or do you need to somehow need to "tell the car" with the use of the computer?

I guess the bottom line is can I do it myself?

The fault may not be the pump. It may be nothing more than the electro-mechanical clutch of the pump. The bits for that are about £50 compared with about £900 for a new pump, though, shopping around using parts factors you can get the pump for a lot less. I'd put it into an a/c specialist saying you suspect the pump clutch.
