Which 7-seat MPV could my son buy for his family?

My son has a 51-plate 1.8 Series 3 BMW with 60,000 miles. The engine is not in good nick, but it runs ok for day-to-day use. His new baby arrived and he now needs a people carrier with seven seats. He has £6000 in cash plus his car. He was offered £2100 by a Volkswagen dealer but they would not budge on the price of a Touran, at £8495 for a 54-plate 1.9-litre diesel. Any ideas on what MPV to look for and any likely problems?

If you're after a good seven-seater look at a Renault Grand Scenic, which will be cheaper than the Touran. Alternatively the Toyota Corolla Verso (usually referred to just as the Toyota Verso) is a well built and reliable choice.
