Does climate control increase fuel consumption

If I put auto climate control on 99% of the time will I use more petrol than if I turned it off ? To assist you I drive a Ford Mondeo Ghia X Manual gearbox (year 2002) an average of 40miles per hour and drive short trips 5 days a week.

On short trips it will use more fuel with the a/c on but not enough more to worry about.
