Why has my Mercedes E-Class failed its MoT?

My Mercedes E-Class failed its MoT and I was wondering if you have any idea with what they failed it with (offside front suspension arm has excessive play in a ball joint) whether the suspension arm just needs adjusting or in need of new ball joint. The additional bit about ball joint says (2.4 G.2).

I was told that I probably would have to have a complete unit, suspension arm and ball joint because the garage guy said they come complete these days in plastic housing. Any thoughts on this?

Usually the ball joints in a suspension arm have been forced in under such pressure that they are inseparable, so a new arm with integral ball joint will probably be needed.
