Is the Isuzu Trooper 3.0 diesel reliable?

I have been told that whilst the 3.1 diesel engine of earlier Isuzu Troopers is very reliable, the 3.0 TD engine of the third generation models (1998 onwards) should be avoided because they are liable to injector problems and blown engines. I’ve also been told that they were subject to an (unsuccessful) Isuzu recall in 2005.

Yet neither the RAC nor AA websites mention this problem and the AA indeed recommends the third generation 3.0 TD as the best Trooper engine. What is the truth??

Surprising because it was officially recalled.
