Will a Volkswagen Golf GT ride better on 17-inch wheels than 18-inch?

I am speccing a Volkswagen Golf GT for my wife. It looks nicer with 18-inch wheels, but will it be appreciably more comfortable on the standard 17-inch?

Yes, slightly, because though the 18-inch wheel size is bigger, the tyre has the same rolling circumference so there is less tyre between the rim and the road than with the 17-inch wheels. Make sure the Golf is fitted with the multilink rear suspension. That makes a huge difference to the ride quality.
