Should I buy a Ford Focus or Honda Jazz, and how can I negotiate a discount?

I am looking to buy either a new Ford Fiesta or Honda Jazz from a local dealer. I just want a base model with no fancy extras as I don't do a lot of miles, just local trips. I don't need finance and have no part-exchange as I am keeping my existing car. Do you think it is worth asking for a discount and, if so, how much should I be looking at?

A substantial discount is built into the list price of a Fiesta, so you should be able to get at least 10 per cent off. It's more fun to drive than a Jazz, but it's not as practical. The seats don't fold up properly, whereas the Jazz has the most brilliantly versatile interior of any small car. It’s more difficult to get a discount on a Jazz, but with a new Jazz coming next year you should be able to chip them down at least 5 per cent.
