Can we ask for a replacement for our Skoda Citigo due to a faulty gearbox?

We bought a new Skoda Citigo last September from a Skoda dealer. From the first day until now we have a serious problem engaging first and reverse gears. We reported this immediately but were told it would settle down. Since then it’s been back three more times. Eventually the dealer admitted the model has a cheap gearbox and this is normal. We are finding it extremely difficult and have to engage gear before turning on the engine or it doesn't engage at all. We are in touch with customer services but they are now changing their minds. Do we have any recourse with Skoda to ask for a new model?

Honesty from Skoda. In fact the Citigo, Mii and Up! all have the same gearboxes and they are of variable quality, as gearboxes have been for at least 20 years in small Volkswagens. Some are much noisier than others. I think you can demand that the dealer first tries a different oil in the gearbox, and if that fails either replaces the faulty gearbox or replaces the car.
