Why can't my Skoda dealer fix my Fabia's faulty rear wiper motor?

My neighbour, a widow, took delivery of a new petrol-engined Fabia Estate six months ago. Since delivery, the rear wiper motor would not stop working regardless of switch position. The main dealer said they don’t know how to stop it and said they have several other cars waiting for new wiper-motors to be delivered. They have now disconnected the motor, but say they are awaiting a response from Skoda as to how to deal with the problem. You recently mentioned a problem with Octavia wiper-motors. Is this problem related? Surely the dealers should be able to sort this out for themselves?

Standard problem. Skoda dealers have been useless about it and Skoda itself worse than useless. Eventually a reader came up with a fix, which is in the carbycar entry here at date 1-5-2013: www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/skoda/octavia-2004/?...d. It’s not a problem with other VAG cars because they use different suppliers for wiper motors.
