Which is the most reliable and economical Ford Focus specification?

Please advise on best engine choice for a used Focus estate (three to five years old) primarily regarding reliability and economy. Please also advise on tyre type for good mileage.

Best wheels and tyres 15-inch with 195/65 R15 tyres. Next best 16-inch with 205/55 R16 tyres. The 2004-2008 Focus wasn’t the best, but was largely fixed in the 2008 facelift. Don't buy a 2004-2008 1.6TDCI as these were particularly troublesome in terms of turbos, DPFs, DMFs, and there was a problem of water collecting leading to rust in the channel on top of the engine of 1.6 petrol engines. 2008-2010 Focus' are generally much better.
