Which diesel pick-up should I buy?

I am considering purchasing a high spec double cab pick-up for use as a family car and 'gardening/camping' duties. My mileage would be some 6000 per annum and the longest average journey would be some 20 miles round trip each week. My choices are the Isuzu D-Max or Nissan Navara. Do you think there are better alternatives? Also I am somewhat concerned about the diesel particulate filter issues. The dealerships say they see very few problems, despite being used by builders, and for agricultural use on many short trips. I am looking for durability and longevity, so auto or manual?

It's a toss-up between the latest D-Max and the Ford Ranger, not the Nissan Navara. Don't touch an auto pick-up. Very sluggish, inefficient and unpleasant to drive. My sister-in-law has one because she can't drive properly. Yes, there is potential for DPF problems.
