I've replied to CP Plus parking in response to being ticketed in a motorway service area during bad weather.

Regarding my ‘fine’ for taking a nap in a Moto motorway rest area, following your advice, here is my response to CP Plus, which I hope will at least give you a chuckle:

"Dear Sirs, Your attached request refers. I would like to advise you that I have no intention of paying any money to you. I was going to use the word "fine" but it's not really a "fine" which could be described as a sum of money to be paid as a penalty; this would be an admission of guilt of actually doing something wrong. I do not believe stopping at a service area on a night of lashing rain and wind with extremely poor visibility to be anything other than prudence and preservation on my part. I believe on the night in question I saw three motorway signs that read "severe weather forecast" ; "tiredness can kill" ; and "take a rest". Assuming "Moto" at Donington Park is a government-licensed service area, I presume your remit is to provide travellers with an area to take a break with food and rest. That is patently what I was doing.

"This type of enforcement under the proviso of a "parking charge" is laughable; highway robbery would be a more apt description. This type of enforcement is illegal in Scotland. If you wish to pursue the matter I suggest you raise a court action against me; I would be willing to bet that a judge would take a dim view of your actions. Please be advised that if you do, of course I will take the matter up with my local (Westminster) MP. I will ask him to advise the appropriate government department to look at the suitability of your company to run service areas."
