Can I recommend the IAM driving course for older drivers?

Thanks for your numerous and excellent articles particularly re. safer driving. May I recommend the Institute of Advanced Motorists? At the age of 80 I decided that as my last test was in 1947 a little awakening might be in order. I joined the IAM, Guildford Branch, and for a figure of £130, including six Observer runs at 30-45 minutes each on Sunday mornings culminating in a test with a Police driving instructor, proudly passing and becoming a full member. I followed this with a skidpan course at Goodwood organised by the IAM. Great fun. The Observers are friendly, helpful, constructive and highly skilled. I believe that my overall skills have benefited significantly, the greatest being much improved vision and anticipation. We develop some poor driving habits over time and I believe all should consider such a course every, say, 20 years.

Yes, you may. I have actually plugged the IAM's Drivecheck 55 on many occasions and support their work generally. I have a lot of respect for Peter Rodger, the IAM's chief examiner.
