Thanks for recommending I take an IAM driving test.

I changed my car last year from a Zafira to a Peugeot Partner. The Partner is wider than the Zafira and as such I had a couple of incidents. To this effect I emailed you just before Christmas regarding a driving refresher course as it is 52 years since I passed my test, I am 74. You suggested that I try the IAM Skill for Life training programme as they were offering a Christmas discount of 10 per cent off their usual £139 fee. I applied and was offered a course of instruction, which I accepted.

I have completed the course and have now passed the IAM test. I had an initial assessment drive under the eye of the area Chief Observer and I was then passed on to a Trained Observer who prepared me for the test. I have had eight ‘lessons’, each of which was over an hour's duration; two pre test assessment drives; the IAM test plus a year of membership of the IAM. Not bad for £125 and even at the full price of £139 it is damned good value for money. Also worth considering is that some insurance companies will give a 10 per cent discount to full members of the IAM.

That's excellent. I hope that printing your email will encourage others to do the same thing. More at www.iam.org.uk
