Which tyres for my 2009 Mercedes-Benz CLK?

I am about to change the tyres on my 2009 Mercedes-Benz 200 Avantgarde CLK (21,000 miles). The vehicle is still under a Mercedes warranty. The current front and rear tyres sizes are as per manufacturer's specification, front size 225-40-ZR-17-91Y (Firestone) and rear size 245-40-ZR-17-91Y (Firestone). What would be the effect of putting the same size on both front and rear? Which tyres would you recommend? My preference would be for longevity, even if this means compromising on grip.

Mercedes and BMW put wider tyres on the rear of their more powerful cars than on the front and the electronics are tuned to these. I can't see the point of putting wider tyres on the rear of a modestly engined car, but any change constitutes a modification and may be penalised by your insurer. Michelin Primacy 3s or Pilot Sport 3s of the same sizes as your existing tyres are probably your best bet. Unless the car automatically resets its steering angle sensor you may need to have it re-set.

Much better second attempt at CLK. Goes well, handles well and is comfortable. Attractive looks.
