Mazda 6 or Vuaxhall Insignia?

I’m shortly moving to a new job, relinquishing a company car and looking to purchase one of my own. I need a decent sized family car with luggage space so am focussed on a five-door hatchback.

I am not sure what mileage I’ll do in my new job, but a daily round trip commute of 18 miles is on the cards which will be balanced by regular UK wide motorway journeys (for which I’ll claim fuel).

I am concerned about DPF and not too worried about outright economy. I’ve a budget of up to £11000 and am considering a used Mazda 6 in Takuya spec with 2.0-litre petrol or a Vauxhall Insignia 1.8 Sri Nav

The Mazda 6 is a good bet: chain cam, reliable and no diesel DPF problems. Insignias are going cheap because that's the only way GM can offload them in the necessary numbers. Good looking, but not much room in the back seat.
