What's the best economical estate for £6k?

I am looking for an economical diesel estate with a large flat load space. I would like it to drive well and not be sluggish, but without sacrificing economy. My budget is £6000.

My shortlist includes the Skoda Octavia 1.9 and the Ford Mondeo 2.0 diesels, but I would consider other engine sizes too. Mileage wise, I was looking at a maximum of 70K, but the choice is slim. Should I really worry about higher milages in the Octavia & Mondeo, say 80,000?

Try to find a Skoda Octavia 1.9TDI that does not have a diesel particulate filter. A Ford Mondeo 2.0TDCI does.
